Last night I went to the Pick of Voila! at the Cockpit Theatre, NW8 – a showcase of five 10-minute excerpts from some of the panlingual shows participating in this year's Voila! theatre festival at these eight small theatre venues across London.
We were treated to We Are All Fish @yata.collective (fascinating), Windows of Displacement @toussainttomove (wow!), Binary Lives - where fate takes us @Disequilibre (engaging), The View @chloboblob (engaging) and Fiasko! @angelapoulima (colourful).
It was lovely to hear the artists talk about their work after each short performance and then meet them for a chat in the bar afterwards. My friend and I especially enjoyed meeting the performers behind Binary Lives who had previously won the 2025 Thessaloniki Fringe award Binary. I was really impressed by Chloe Shyan in The View for not only her stage presence but also her kakapo impression(!).
An absolutely delightful evening. I am now trying to work out how to see as many as possible of the 100 productions as will fit into my diary. I should have started planning for this much earlier.
